How We Can Help

Support for Head Turning and Neck Movement

Understanding Torticollis

Torticollis can cause a head tilt or difficulty turning the neck, sometimes associated with tight neck muscles. We assess your baby's movement, posture and comfort to understand what support they need.

Head-Turning Preferences

If your baby consistently looks one way or finds it difficult to turn to the other side, we explore their movement and show you gentle handling and play activities that encourage looking both ways.

Plagiocephaly and Head Shape

A flat spot or uneven head shape can develop alongside a head-turning preference. We assess movement and discuss varied positions during awake, supervised time, with medical review recommended when needed.

Comfortable Tummy Time

Short, supervised tummy-time activities can help your baby practise head control and movement. We adapt positions and play to your baby's age and tolerance so practice feels manageable.

Practical Parent Coaching

We demonstrate individualised activities that fit around feeds, naps and play. Any stretches are recommended only when appropriate and shown by your physiotherapist, without forcing your baby's head to turn.

Reviewing Your Baby's Progress

We review neck movement, posture and early movement skills as your baby grows. With your consent, we can coordinate with your GP, paediatrician or wider healthcare team when additional assessment is needed.

Meet Tek

The Physio Behind PHYSITEK

Hi, I'm Tekarie (Tek), Director and Paediatric Physiotherapist at PHYSITEK. I started this practice because I believe therapy works best where children actually live and play, not in a clinic room. Families tell me the difference is having someone who listens first, explains things in plain language, and builds a plan that fits real life.

When you enquire, you speak with our team directly, and we'll talk through what your child needs before anything is booked.

Common Questions

Your Questions, Answered

How can I tell if my baby needs an assessment?

Get in touch if your baby consistently looks one way, struggles to turn the other way, holds their head tilted or is developing a flat spot. An assessment helps identify their needs. A sudden head tilt, pain or signs that your baby is unwell should be checked promptly by a doctor.

Are torticollis and plagiocephaly the same thing?

No. Torticollis relates to neck movement and head posture, while plagiocephaly describes an uneven or flattened head shape. They can occur together, but either can occur on its own.

What happens at the first appointment?

We listen to your concerns, learn about your baby's routine and observe their neck movement, head posture, head shape and early movement skills. Together we agree on a plan and practise gentle activities you can use between visits.

Should I change how my baby sleeps?

Always place your baby on their back to sleep on a firm, flat surface. Do not use pillows or positioners to change head shape or hold the head in place. Tummy time and varied play positions are for when your baby is awake and supervised.

Do I need a referral?

You can contact PHYSITEK directly without a referral. Some Medicare or funding pathways may require one; we can discuss this when you enquire.

Which suburbs do you visit?

We provide mobile appointments across Greater Brisbane, including Brisbane, Ipswich, Logan, Caboolture and Wynnum. Include your suburb in the enquiry form and we'll discuss availability for your family.

What happens after I send an enquiry?

We'll be in touch to discuss your baby's needs, answer your questions and talk through arranging an appointment.
